MATHIAS FUCHS – DISLOCATIONS

Mathias Fuchs and Jeff Conefry exhibited at the Media Facade of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb.

borderline (machinima video) by Mathias Fuchs was one of the artworks that I selected and curated for the exhibition titled Dislocations that was part of the Official Parallel Program of the 12th Istanbul Biennial and of ISEA2011 Istanbul.

Senior curators: Lanfranco Aceti and Tihomir Milovac.

Within the Dislocations’ program that dealt with cultural re-contextualization and relocation of representations of war it was a natural choice for me to select the work of Mathias Fuchs. borderline I thought would be a fascinating piece – that, relocated to a nation that was a ‘theater of war’ twenty years ago would raise questions on the concept of war themed video games, their representation and aestheticization as art forms, and on the transformation of the Media Facade in a video theater layered upon the cultural history and memorialization process of the city of Zagreb.
