About Ars Manifesta

Ars Manifesta is an insight into the artistic, curatorial and aesthetic approaches of Lanfranco Aceti. It is a space to showcase ongoing projects, collaborations and ideas as they develop. It also represents an opportunity to interact with the audience and develop feedback on issues that affect contemporary fine arts and digital cultures.

Ars Manifesta is an artist's diary in the 21st Century as well as a scrap book that offers to the viewer the possibility of engaging with the meandering aesthetic narratives of a contemporary artist caught between transcultural identities and trasmediations of contents.

What is happening in these days?
Thursday, October 08, 2009

I am catching up with my own artistic practice. I have just finished my article for NEME and I am thinking of doing the performance here in Istanbul and in other cities across the world.
If you have time give a look at the article. I had fun writing it and working on it. Now that the commodification of labour seems to be ‘in fashion,’ it should not be too controversial either.

Help Me To Be Friends With Her
Sunday, August 23, 2009

Help Me To Be Friends With Her is a project that started in 2007 at the ICA in London. The premises of the project are based on on-line email exchanges with another artist… The writings changed into colourful and poetic personal stories where the words themselves became images in an on-line colourful playground. In these days I am putting together this project and focus on the aesthetic relationship of words and images and the blurring of distinction and boundaries between the two in the world of on-line digital media.

Existence Suspended Between Real and Virtual

I ONLY EXIST WHEN I TALK WITH YOU

WHO KNOWS THE LEAST ABOUT ME
WHO KNOWS THE LEAST ABOUT ME

WHO UNDERSTANDS THE MOST ABOUT ME

I DON’T AFFIRM ANY LONGER
I DON’T AFFIRM ANY LONGER

I DON’T CONFIRM ANY MORE

I ANNOUNCE THE DISAPPEARANCE
I ANNOUNCE THE DISAPPEARANCE
FROM THE DELUDED DESERT OF HUMANITY…
FROM THE DELUDED DESERT OF HUMANITY...

AND YOU ARE THERE,
AND YOU ARE THERE,

LIKE A MERMAID,
LIKE A MERMAID,

WITH YOUR VOICE CHAINING ME
WITH YOUR VOICE CHAINING ME

TO THE HOPES LIFE
TO THE HOPES LIFE

IN THE NAME OF AN OLD GAME
IN THE NAME OF AN OLD GAME

THAT WE CALL ART…
THAT WE CALL ART…

Words and Images
Monday, August 03, 2009

I have been working on art project for a while on the relationship between word and text. There are many ways of considering how to structure this relationship. My interest focuses on the word as image in the context of contemporary digital media.

AND I HAVE MISSED YOU... the moments i have spent with YOU, writing in isolation from the rest of the world, are my moments of creativity

A Traveling Course
Saturday, April 04, 2009

This Saturday I am going with my students to Galeri Nev. I have to say that this course in artistic practice and curatorial studies is becoming more and more interesting by the day. I am working on a project with one of the students that relates to the virtual analysis of spaces and their representations within the fine arts. As an artist he is analyzing the clashes between private and public spaces and the engagement with ‘digital representation’ of the spaces as a source of inspiration and ‘affective’ engagement. It should be fun.

Squatting with Textual Images
Friday, March 20, 2009

The use of digital media is not in the way in which it is prescribed, but it is in the alternatives made possible by subverting the system. Picasa slideshow becomes a display of an artistic statement. A series of words that flow as images, blurring the line of what is text and what is image.

The words like breadcrumbs were placed onto Google Corporation’s virtual space in GoogleMaps and can be seen as images in Picasa.
